Just in the past few days I've noticed that the arguments for being against SegWit no longer have anything to do with SegWit, but instead with the concept of Soft Forks.

See here , here and here for just a few examples.

I think its fascinating to watch the evolution of social idea's propagate and evolve in real time. Just last week and really for the past few months I dont recall seeing a single argument against soft forks. Now in the last 24 hours I've seen at least half a dozen complaints about it.

Does anyone have any thoughts on why the sudden goal post shifting? Swift changes like this don't just suddenly occur. Usually "trusted sources" are perpetuating this idea, and then it takes hold in a community who propagates it.

For example, the top upvoted comment on a recent thread in /r/btc says "Not unless it's optimized for a hard fork reality." in regards to implementing SegWit. So clearly something recent there has started everyone thinking down this line.

Its important to reflect on this, and to understand that the needle is moving. Those who previously rejected the idea of SegWit are no longer rejecting it, but have shifted their ideology to accept it, just not the medium in which it is delivered.

Previously, they rejected SegWit as a scaling solution, because it was not the scaling solution they wanted.

I think the best way to handle this is to apply the same method that has been applied the entire time –

Fight ignorance with education. We must really hammer in all the negatives of hardforks, and the positives of soft forks. We can win this evolution of idea's by making those in opposition learn. While there is a very very small educated minority within the opposing minority, the majority of the opposing minority are uneducated.

Their belief systems can only be challenged by providing constant reinforcing data!
