If my understanding is correct, the Core scaling roadmap is designed to prevent centralization of the Bitcoin network by ensuring that the blockchain remains light enough that ordinary users across the globe can run a full node.

It's my understanding that this concern for keeping the blockchain light is the reason that blocksize hasn't been raised to 2MB, 4MB, or more.

However, I often see it said that SW represents an on-chain scaling increase of 1.7x (or other amounts).

That confuses me– doesn't that make SW a problem for nodes (and therefore bad for the network) for the same reason that a 2MB blocksize would be a problem?
