Can someone explain to me how the RBF feature in Electrum is supposed to work and what I might be doing wrong?

I sent a transaction about 6 hours ago. After a few blocks going by with no confirmation I figured the network was clogging up again and I had probably sent my transaction with too low a fee.

So I finally give the RBF feature in Electrum a go. I had set the transaction as replaceable when I originally sent it. I right click, hit increase fee, up the slider on the fee and hit ok (I am not selecting this as final if that matters), Sign and broadcast the transaction, but I get an error message:

"error: The transaction was rejected by network rules. (258: txn-mempool-conflict)"

Am I doing something wrong here?
