It seems most Core developers feel bip148 is rash, however I understand why some want to enact bip148 due to some of the community wanting a quick fix.

I prefer bip149 which would be a GUARANTEED timeout (?) activation on July 4th, 2018. Yes, it's a year away, but I feel it would have way more consensus and we wouldn't need miners like Jihan to get it activated. It seems most of Core agrees this is the best path.

Jihan is against open-source development. See tweet here https://twitter.com/JihanWu/status/850761531843149824

that is AGAINST bitcoin. he or his colleagues are ex-Baidu/Microsoft employees. they come from big private corporations who do shady things. They are closed-source operations.

i do not agree with Barry and some companies agreeing to give Jihan any leverage. I'd rather wait a year for bip149.

This, bitcoin, can be bigger than money and the dollar itself. We can activate SegWit in a responsible less contentious manner on July 4th 2018.

Should bip148 succeed, then Great! however, should it not, what precedent/image does that set for the rest of the non-technical bitcoin community and the impatient exchanges/wallets/companies who just want a quick fix? does it hurt our chances at bip149?
